The call of the disciples, especially of Matthew is always breathtaking for me. I don’t think I’m the only one impacted with the importance of this call, St. Matthew, St, Mark and St. Luke each document it. Of course, St. Matthew would, it changed his life (and, eternity). But, it had to be talked about around the table and fires for years.
Reflecting on these Gospels and the scene’s depiction in The Chosen really hit me differently this morning.
Watch Simon’s reaction. “Do You know what this guy’s done?”, “do You even know him?” And, what struck me was Jesus’ answer, “yes”.
It is important, of course, that we come to know Jesus. But, our eternity hinges on Jesus’ answer when someone looks at you and asks, “Do You know what this guy’s done? Do You even know him?” Will Jesus look at you with those loving, merciful eyes and respond, “yes”?
Get to know Jesus but more importantly make sure He knows and recognizes you.
“As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.” Matthew 9:9
“As he went along, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax booth. “Follow me,” he said to him. And he got up and followed him.” Mark 2:14
“After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the tax booth. “Follow me,” he said to him. And he got up and followed him, leaving everything[g] behind.” Luke 5:27-28
