“In the year that King Uzzi′ah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim; each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!”
Then flew one of the seraphim to me, having in his hand a burning coal which he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin forgiven.” And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”” Isaiah 6:1-8
“Soul: Lord, I recognize your holiness, and I fear You.
Jesus: My child, do you fear the God of mercy? My holiness does not prevent Me from being merciful. Behold, for you I have established a throne of mercy on earth-the tabernacle-and from this throne I desire to enter into your heart. I am not surrounded by a retinue or guards. You can come to me at any moment, at any time; I want to speak to you and desire to grant you grace…Your misery has disappeared in the depths of My mercy. Do not argue with Me about your wretchedness. You will give me pleasure if you hand over to me all your troubles and griefs. I shall heap upon you the treasures of My grace..” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 1485
The soul’s response is that of St. Faustina and Isaiah when faced with the Holiness of God. What Isaiah experienced, we also do. In logical terms, the wretchedness of even the most holy saint on earth pales and is burnt up in the Holy Presence of God.
But, it is precisely in this moment and in this state of soul that the Most Holy God calls the soul forward. He hears the call, “whom shall I send? Who will go for me?” The wretched soul crumbles in humble fear before this call of the Most Holy God. In the midst of this moment, God sends forth His angels, singing “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts”.
At every Mass God sends His burning ember. We receive from the altar of the Most Holy God a ‘burning ember’ of purification – the Holy Eucharist. The Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of the Son of the Most Holy to burn away our sins. To make us holy and He is Holy.
Receive this ‘burning ember’, then when the Most Holy God asks “whom shall I send? Who will go for me?”, confidently and boldly shout “HERE I AM! Send me”
Go forth from Mass, spreading the Gospel boldly with your life.
