“How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!” Luke 13:34
“He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge” Psalm 91:4
How often do we live in fear of what we’ve done? We lie awake at night lamenting or worrying over some wrong. We did something immoral or acted in a way that could bring judgment if called out. And, we stress and fear getting caught or that we did it. We committed a sin, maybe even a horrible, mortal sin – we worry a loved one will learn or the one sinned against will be angry, we fear God will find out and cast us out. That He will see what we did, judge us and cast us out of His love.
Well, He already knows and still He climes up on that cross. In fact, He looked across time, saw what you did and told the Father, “that is why I do this. Forgive Him, Father. I take his punishment. Just love him as you do Me.”
This is what it means to be taken under His wings, under His pinions. A mother hen does this with her chicks. The chicks know that when there is danger they run under the hen’s wings. She covers them and they sit silently. You’d never know they were there until the danger passes. They are safe and comfortable under her wings.
This is what Jesus proposes to each of us on Divine Sunday. Jesus, God, gives us this shelter under which to run. He tells us that if we act as the chicks, running to Him in absolute trust, He Himself will shelter us under His arms. Arms spread wide upon the cross.
You simply have to trust His love and protection. When the terror of the night comes and arrows are shot at you, run to Him.
“The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day are opened all the divine floodgates through which graces flow. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet.” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 699
No matter how dark things may seem not how many arrows the world shoots at you (maybe from your own quiver) run like the little chicks to His Merciful wing.
“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36
Today is the day! Come under the wing of His protection.
“You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence; He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, or the arrow that flies by day, or the pestilence that stalks in darkness, or the destruction that wastes at noonday.” Psalm 91:1-6
