“Day and night without ceasing they sing, “Holy, holy, holy,
the Lord God the Almighty,
who was and is and is to come””Revelation 4:8
During the celebration of Holy Mass, we hear and sing this prayer with the angelic hosts. We stand and exclaim side by side with all the hosts of Heaven in this moment. There is no greater gift the Lord gives to His Church Militant.
How do you worship God in your day? Can you say that you worship as the angels and elders in the Book of Revelation? So often we leave this great prayer in Mass and don’t think about it again until the following Sunday. Singing this acclamation “day and night” may seem like something that only the Heavenly Host could do, but it is there for all of us to join the joy of this acclamation.
The angels and all the saints in Heaven find great joy in proclaiming the Lord’s Holiness. The Seraphim sing “Holy Holy Holy is the Lord of Hosts” Isaiah 6:3. Exclaiming the great Majesty of God isn’t that difficult when you start with this prayer.
In this simple prayer, you will be speaking this truth into your heart and over time, as you continue this acclamation, your heart and life will begin to burn as the Seraphim.
Cry Holy, Holy, Holy to the Lord God Almighty with your words when you are taking a walk, doing a chore, going into or sitting in a meeting…simple and quick. Then, I challenge you to sing it out loud with your family and loved ones. Make the “Holy, Holy, Holy” ring out through the air often. Add it to your morning prayer when you first wake in praise of our great God to center your day upon Him, sing it along with your grace before and after meals. Sing it in your night prayers before bed, maybe right after your examen and right after the lights are turned off. Sing it with your friends, in your prayer groups. Sing it with your spouse strengthening your Sacrament. Sing it with your children to teach them the glory of God Magnificence in their lives. Close your eyes as you sing this praise and hear the angels rejoicing along with you. Your voice will be joining the Angel Choirs!
Let your cry of “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God the Almighty” join with creation to make His Kingdom come to earth as it is in Heaven.” Do it now!
“And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to the one who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall before the one who is seated on the throne and worship the one who lives forever and ever; they cast their crowns before the throne, singing, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” Revelation 4:9-10
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:9-13
“Cherubim and Seraphim,
In unceasing chorus praising,
Fill the heavens with sweet accord:
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord!”
