“Come Holy Spirit” – Teach Us Humility

Spread the love

I recently heard a priest say that in the confessional, 7 of 10 people confess a lack of humility while the other three say how proud they are to be so humble.

That made me chuckle because a dear brother (Tom) and I would always tease about how humble much humble we are then the other and how proud we are of that humility.

Humility of a fleeting virtue of the Holy Spirit. Can a soul ever attain it? When the soul feels they are truly humble, do they go back to square one in their pride?

Humility and the desire for this virtue sends the devil and his minions fleeing. The inability to humble himself before God and His plan is what led to Satan’s disgrace and fall.

“Humility, humility, and a always humility.  Satan fears and trembles before humble souls.” St. Padre Pio

“The most powerful weapon to conquer the devil is Humility.” St. Vincent De Paul

But, humility as a tool and engaged as a heroic virtue can change a sinner into a saint. It is fully in humility the soul can trust God fully and follow His plan. It is only in the humble soul that surrender comes. Peace is a fruit of the humble soul as he knows who he is and Who God is – trusting His Divine Plan, without offering his own desires.

“It was pride that changed angels into devils; It is humility that makes men as angels.” St. Augustine

Humility of the soul allows him to venerate and honor our Blessed Mother as Jesus does. And, in this to draw upon her example and the virtues of her fiat.

God makes saints as He pleases, but they are made always according to His plan and in submission the His Divine Will. This submission is true and perfect humility.
