Christ The King

“Let the same mind be in you that was[a] in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:5-11

For me, these words from Philippians 2 are a mic drop. On this feast day, I could post these verses and say “‘nuf said”and move on. If you know me though, you know I can’t let it end even with a mic drop.

The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, commonly referred to as the Feast of Christ the King, Christ the King Sunday or Reign of Christ Sunday, is a feast in the liturgical year which emphasises the true kingship of Christ. While the feast is a relatively recent addition to the liturgical calendar, instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI for the Roman Riteof the Catholic Church, it has been celebrated every day and moment since before time.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people.” John 1:1-4

These verses give us Christ the King. To Whom “every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” and King. Men have revered and bowed to earthly kings for ages. But, to THIS King is all the honor and glory. Every knee, every tongue means those who honor and adore Him as King of Kings now and those who revile, deny and fight against Him. Everyone will bow and confess.

So start now. If you don’t already do so, now your head at the sound of His Name. More so, today (and every day) bend your knee to His Name and His presence in your life. Bend the knee and surrender to your King. And, just as much, confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is your King. Confess and tell everyone that He is the King of Kings, your King.

“KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelations 19:16

“All the earth will worship you, and will sing to you; they will sing to your name.” Psalm 66:4

  1. Ed,
Your commentary was powerful and the messaging spoke to my heart on this feast of Christ the King. I love Phil 2: 5-11. It is one of my favorites and I appreciated how you brought John 1: 1-4 into the discussion.
    Thank you!
    Jim
