Castle – gates

Spread the love

The gates of the castle tend to be the most vulnerable locations. The gates allow access to the interiors of the castle. Because of this inherent weakness, gates need to be heavily defended.

No matter how strong the walls. every castle has the same weak point, every castle is vulnerable at its gate. It is the same with the soul. The portals and gateways are points through which the soul is at risk of being overtaken and defeated.

The castle overcomes these weaknesses and potential risks by heavily defending the gate with strong gatehouses that include additional defensive structures like portcullises and towers.

The soul has many gateways and portals, some that we have built on our own and others that were ‘installed’ by other people. However the gateway was created, it is a weakness and must be closed permanently. As long as the gateway or portal exists, the soul is at risk. The enemy will never let up his attack against this weak point. He will never relent until he breaks through and utterly destroys the soul.

How does a soul not only close the gateways but lock and secure them against any attack? First and foremost, the Sacraments. Nothing is more powerful than the Sacraments that bring Christ to the soul in a true, meaningful way. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a Sacrament of exorcism. Every time the soul comes to Confession with a contrite heart, Jesus Himself casts out all sin and licks the doors. Nothing is stronger than the Eucharist, received Him as often as possible – as a Spiritual Communion if necessary.

Understand that the battle is already engaged. The enemy is already at the gate. Slam it/them immediately. Do this by recognizing the gate, then asking God for mercy if a sin and help either way. Renounce the tie to this gate and ask God for help in locking the door. ‘In the Name of Jesus, I renounce … and claim the power of God’s grace and power in overcoming and locking this gate forever.’ Then, renew this commitment daily or hourly as often as needed. Attend an Unbound session and ‘Victory if Spiritual Warfare’ workshop (look for this to come in a virtual format soon). Finally, surround yourself with trust companions who can help close the door and hold it when you are weak. Finally, finally, go to Confession.

”Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

  1. Excellent!
You can not over estimate the power of the sacraments! The spiritual reality is far greater than our minds could ever understand or conceptualize. I love how Ed keeps hammering this point! Keep swinging Ed!
