Battlements and fortifications make the castle strong when the attack comes. This castle’s battlements are prayer. Most especially, the Holy Rosary, the Divine Office, the Chaplet of a divine Mercy (my favorite fortification).
The key to drawing close to the Lord is type of prayer within which the soul finds peace. The Lord has designed each heart and mind differently. He savors time spent withIn the depth of each individual soul.
The Lord loves a special form of prayer, that is one of silence and trust.
Prayer is a strong form of defense for the castle. The more the soul can find rest and peace in the arms of his savior and God, the stronger the soul is against all forms of attack from the enemy.
A battlement is not just about strong defense. A battlement on top of the castle wall is made that the castle may attack the enemy. Upon strong walls of faith, prayer rests both as a strong defense mechanism for the soul and one that can be used to go on the offensive.
Prayer as an offensive weapon? Oh yes, have no doubt the prayer is a great weapon. The desperate prayer of a father over his daughter as she lies clinging to life in an ICU bed makes the power of a nuclear bomb pale in comparison. The enemy squeals in anger as a soul prays the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for a sinner or a dying person. St. Faustina wrote that the enemy flees to the very pits of Hell when a soul prays the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
Fight! Defend one’s soul in prayer but do not fear to go on the offensive.
“I will tell you most when you converse with Me in the depths of your heart. Here, no one can disturb My actions. Here, I rest as in a garden enclosed” Divine Mercy in my soul # 581
“When you reflect upon what I tell you in the depths of your heart, you profit more than if you had read many books. Oh, if souls would only want to listen to My voice when I am speaking in the depths of their hearts, they would reach the peak of holiness in a short time” Divine Mercy in my soul # 584
