“Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy. I desire that the whole world know My infinite mercy. I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy.” Divine Mercy in my soul # 687
Got you! Bet you thought, “oh no, is he bringing politics into the Road of Faith?”
The ‘Cancel Culture’ is all over the news. I avoid news because it just winds me up, but last night the Lord woke me with the ‘Cancel Culture’ on my heart. Not in the way of the world, though.
Jesus wants us to join His Cancel Culture. In fact, I could contend this movement was of utmost importance to Jesus. So much so, that He made these words His first recorded words in the first chapter of Mark’s Gospel. “Repent” Mark 1:15
Cancel: (of a factor or circumstance) neutralize or negate the force or effect of (another).
We need to live as the Spiritual Cancel Culture. This Lent gives us a great starting point to do just that. Throughout Lent, and every day of our lives, we are called by God to cancel our lives of sin and turn to His Mercy.
Start by immediately following the Lord’s own words, “Repent”. To repent means to feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one’s wrongdoing or sin. That is the first step. A soul can’t turn back to God unless it feels sorrow and regret for its sin.
“Let the weak, sinful soul have no fear to approach Me, for even if it had more sins than there are grains of sand in the world, all would be drowned in the unmeasurable depths of My mercy.” Divine Mercy in my soul # 1059
The best part, is this is all the Lord needs to work miracles. Look at the thief hanging beside Jesus on Calvary. He did nothing except to repent, and the Lord greeted Him into His Heavenly Kingdom.
“The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart” Psalm 51:17
Easter isn’t far off now. Look to the Easter sunrise and in this Lenten desert, raise your eyes from the darkness of sin in which your soul is living. Call out to the Lord and repent of all your sins. He is not so distant as not to hear your cry. In fact, no matter how rotten or lost you think you are, you will find Jesus right next to you when you call out.
Once you’ve done this, run to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Find a priest immediately who will hear your confession. The Lord has already given you His Divine Mercy in your cry to Him but the Sacrament will add concrete to your repentance. The Sacrament will put you back on solid ground both mentally and spiritually.
Bonus is that going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation now, during this Lent, allows you to obtain all the gifts and benefits Jesus promises on Divine Mercy Sunday.
“I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all souls, and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the Fount of My Mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet.” Divine Mercy in my soul # 699
