“Surely he has borne our infirmities and carried our diseases; yet we accounted him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have all turned to our own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:
Though we hide our sores and sins under our veils and masks. We hide the wound beneath golden silks of the world.
But, the Lord sees beyond our sores to the man beneath. He sees and loves us with those sores, scabs and scars.
Our Lord came to earth, He came to us in our sickness. He came and hugged and kissed us in His deep love. Despite, no, because of our sores He drew us near to Himself.
“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.“ 2 Corinthians 5:21
He spent His life on earth to teach us love – Love as the Father. Then, He climbed up Calvary’s hill to the cross, where He was stripped to expose the sores and illness that He has taken on for us. His kiss upon our diseased lips took upon Himself all our leprous sores – all the stain and suffering and pain of our sin. His kiss took our illness that we may be clean.
He came seeing the sins of our sin, a death sentence. We had no hope. It was to this that Jesus approached us, taking us in His embrace.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” John 3:16
