The classic trilogy of the Lord of the Rings written by J.R.R. Tolkien is a Christian tale of the world’s battle – evil vs. Christ. The series leads up to and ends with the “Return of the King.” From the beginning of the tale, we read of evil’s continuing victories over good. We see the good characters overcome and succumbing to sins and demonic attacks. Through ‘Two Towers” leading to the final book, it looks like evil forces are going to win. Good is failing on every front. Everything evil does seems to bring success and push good back. The war comes down to an epic battle before the white city of Gondor and two small souls surrounded by darkness.
It seems it is a moment “where sin increased”, “so that, just as sin exercised dominion in death.” Hope is doomed for the darkness is at its peak. All evil’s power is on display and seems to have dominion over everything.
Bingo!
This is precisely the time of the King’s return. The king steps into the scene, unveiled in glory when evil had shown all its power. It is at this time that one man raises his sword and leads the armies to victory. It is also at this moment, two small seemingly powerless souls stand face to face with the powers and overcome temptation to win the victory.
“where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, just as sin exercised dominion in death, so grace might also exercise dominion through justification leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 5:20-21
How much does this fictional story seem like the world today? Darkness and evil seem to rule in the halls of our government as sinful practices are revered and protected by laws at the expense of the Christian. Innocent millions die before their first breath. Christians, not just Catholics, who try to stand and speak up are attacked and demonized, often times from within their trusted walls. There seems no hope, only darkness. Unless a humble soul stands against the darkness with hope. Unless the King returns soon.
“…before I come as the Just Judge, I am coming first as the King of Mercy.” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 83
When will the King of Kings return? Why doesn’t He come now to overturn the powers reigning against the people? Why is sin allowed to grow in its power and crush the Church?
The King allows this by His strategy. He is not afraid nor timid. He has ALREADY overcome. He allows evil now to place all its chips on the table. Plays the game to get the evil one to go all in. When all chips are down and evils reveals all the cards, the deck looks stacked. It is then that the King will show His hand. That hand is victory. Just when the gates of hell seems ready to claim victory, it is when sin abounds with overwhelming power that grace destroys the darkness.
Keep hope! The time of the King’s return is approaching. Soon and very soon. But, on this day, He will not return in a diaper or swaddling. He will come back as the Mighty Warrior and ALL nations, leaders and armies will bow before Him. All darkness will be shattered and sun torn asunder.
Soon..tomorrow, in our lifetime or the next age. The King returns. When the time is perfect…
“I saw the Lord Jesus, like a king in great majesty, looking down upon our earth with great severity; but because of His Mother’s intercession He prolonged the time of His mercy.” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 1261
