“Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so for three days and three nights the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth. The people of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the proclamation of Jonah, and see, something greater than Jonah is here! The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and see, something greater than Solomon is here!” Matthew 12:38-42
Google processed millions of searches each day – 5.9 million searches per minute, roughly 8.5 billion searches per day, 3.1 trillion searches per year. Yet, within the Bible before us is all the wisdom of God.
How often do you search God’s word for knowledge and wisdom to face life’s challenges? Casting Crowns has a song that comes to mind, “what if His people prayed?”. In it are lyrics “What if the family turned to Jesus stopped asking Oprah what to do.”
Too many look to the internet or Oprah or the government for their answers. Seeking worldly wisdom to get ahead in the world or asking the world that spins life around like a washer spin cycle how to find peace. But seldom do people turn to God, the King of Peace.
We see violence escalating, road rage and hatred. We see people loosing themselves in virtual worlds and games to seek escape. Or, worse, seeking that escape in alcohol and drugs. Traveling the US, we are shocked at the number of marijuana stores we see, not medicinal either but ‘recreational’. And states pushing to add this ‘right’ for their people. I’ve even seen pushes for legalizing other heavier drugs. Once Nancy Reagan had a huge push to stop all drug use, now we try to push it upon everyone as an escape.
What if that escape hatch we seek was found to be Jesus? What if the best way to find true true peace were found in the Bible and Catholic Church.
As a society, we’ve pushed God out of school, away from the public forum. We remove His images from sight as offensive and remove the Ten Commandments from view when our whole order of government is based on these laws.
The world won’t find peace until it finds God again. We need to turn our ‘Google search’ focus to seeking God. He is found within the covers of your Bible and within the tabernacles of your Catholic Churches. We need to bend our efforts to seek wisdom and peace upon finding Jesus.
