“And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road.” Matthew 2:12
The Magi were some of the few who saw the star. Smart men, who on an intellectual level found the star and its meaning. Smart men who from books and sight followed the start through Arabia and Jerusalem to find what it pointed to – a King. Smart men who came based on an intellectual quest and ‘left a different way.”
But, then what?
They went home a different way. The magi visited and went home. But, is there anything out of Persia or anywhere else speaking of these men? Did they tell anyone what they found? They encountered the King of all kings and went home.
When the Magi saw the star, they acted. They walked across the Arabian sands to seek the King to Whom the star pointed. They must have studied the prophecies of Israel to identify this star and reason its purpose. They knew enough to speak to Herod of what even his scholars didn’t identify.
Jesus came personally and spoke to my daughter. He gave her messages to trust in her struggles. she conveyed the visits to my wife and I, filling in what we witnessed from our clouded view.
But, despite the great encounter each of the Magi and my daughter had with Jesus, what came of it? A good story told by St. Matthew and Crèches in cities, churches and under trees around the world. My book, “I Knew His Voice” with simple words of these miracle visits. But, have you ever hear from Persia of the Magi telling others? Where is my daughter’s faith?
While rewriting ‘I Knew His Voice’, I came to a realization. A soul can encounter Jesus and be overcome with joy and desire to repent but if that soul doesn’t act, nothing will occur.
The disciples encounter Jesus in Emmaus and ran back to Jerusalem to tell everyone. The Apostles went out into the world, most to their deaths, to tell of their encounter. I wrote “I Knew His Voice”, share on this blog (www.theroadoffaith.net), done some speaking events to share these encounters and will tell everyone I meet of my encounter.
When anyone encounters Jesus, they walk away different but what about the next day? Have you done anything with your encounter with Jesus? I’m thrilled that God gave me this realization in this rewrite that I could move and help others shake the dust from their feet to tell their stories. Don’t just ‘go home a different way.’ Make the change real and permanent – share with others. You can’t just walk away from this encounter.
