Bible on the Road – Calling for Mercy

Spread the love

“Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Preserve my life, for I am devoted to you; save your servant who trusts in you. You are my God; be gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all day long. Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you.” Psalm 86:1-5

“Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.” Psalm 139:23-24

Cry out to God for His Divine Mercy. No matter where you are or how dark the sin, this mercy is given freely and more abundantly than asked.

Calling for mercy is a huge leap of faith, yes. To think that God would forgive what I’ve done – unbelievable but reality. This is but the first step.

Yes, it is fact that as many times as we ask God for mercy it is given, the soul can’t simply continue to beg God’s Mercy. Well, yea it can, but, we need more. The soul given this ocean of mercy needs change. Without change, the soul is simply trapped in a spiral of sin.

Psalm 86 is often our Night prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours. Each time I pray these words I can’t help but think this is God instructing me to look for change.

“For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart to revere your name.” Psalm 86:10-11

When the contrite soul enters the confessional, it can be guaranteed Divine Mercy as the great treasure. When the soul exits the confessional, the work starts. But, the soul doesn’t fight this battle alone. Sin is simply too great for the soul to overcome alone. It has its claws dug in, habit and concupiscence held tight like a noose. Stepping out, washed in Divine Mercy, the soul now needs to reach out to God to learn to walk in His truth, to learn His ways that sin is overcome.

Washing the soul clean as wool in His Divine Mercy is a major goal of the Father. Keeping the soul white and pure is His end game (aka sanctified Saint).

So, as Easter approaches, run the God’s Sacrament of Mercy (Reconciliation), be made clean, be refreshed anew – even if the billionth time you’ve gone. Then, take the next step to become a saint. Look for God’s teachings on how to become holy as He is Holy (1 Peter 1:16 / Leviticus 19:2).

Today the Lord said to me, ‘Daughter, when you go to confession, to this fountain of My mercy, the Blood and Water which came forth from My Heart always flows down upon your soul and ennobles it. Every time you go to confession, immerse yourself entirely in My mercy, with great trust, so that I may pour the bounty of My grace upon your soul. When you approach the confessional, know this, that I Myself am waiting there for you. I am only hidden by the priest, but I Myself act in your soul. Here the misery of the soul meets the God of Mercy. Tell souls that from this fount of mercy souls draw graces solely with the vessel of trust. If their trust is great, there is no limit to My generosity. The torrent of grace inundate humble souls. The proud remain always in poverty and misery, because My grace turns away from them to humble souls. Divine Mercy in My Soul # 1602
