“Be still and know that I AM God” Psalm 46:10
By far one of my favorite lines in scripture – what words of God throughout all the Bible, all the saint’s writings and history are more meaningful and powerful than these?
As I sit here in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, I pray for each and every follower of The Road of Faith. May all your biggest needs, worries and concerns be enveloped in God’s words. “Be still and know that I AM God.” May all your fears and troubles be subdued within God’s words. “Be still and know that I AM God.”
Every stress and fear falls to pieces when we quietly focus upon these words, “Be still and know that I AM God.”
I sit here this evening with my own stresses. We recently learned our daughter’s kidney, transplanted just last summer, is in chronic rejection. She said the doctors told her this means within the next two years her kidney will fail. They recommend she start looking for live donors now. In the past I would have allowed the stress of this news and situation to overwhelm my spirit. But, tonight, God draws me to Himself in this hour of adoration to calm my heart with His holy words, “Be still and know that I AM God.”
And, I rest here before Him in peace. The words of Psalm 46:10 sit alongside “Jesus, I trust in You” as the most powerful I’ve ever heard. Meaning the same thing, these words settle upon my heart as a great medicine and vitamin. These words calm the illness of my spirit and mind that is fear and distrust and they infuse my soul with the energy that is the peace of Jesus.
Come before God in every moment you can. Don’t wait for bad times, visit often. He will draw you closer to His heart, closer to His side, when you need Him most. You don’t need to worry or even ask for this, simply accept it. “Be still and know that I AM God”
Lay your heart and fears upon His altar at Mass, in holy hour of adoration and when kneeling at home. Let those fears fall aside in these words that bring promise to you. “Be still and know that I AM God.” For IF God is God, you can certainly trust there is nothing to fear, nothing that can overcome Him and through Him, nothing can overcome you.
