C.S. Lewis said that either Jesus is a liar, lunatic or Lord.
Jesus didn’t exhibit Himself with the trait of a liar. He never showed Himself to be out of touch with reality. That leaves just one thing remaining. To ‘prove’ His stance, Jesus did miraculous things.
We know the story of the friends who brought the paralytic man to Jesus for healing. They broke open the roof to lower their friend to Jesus. Jesus, seeing the strength and beauty of their faith, instantly replied. ““Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.” Matthew 9:2. But, knowing the hearts and minds of the scribes and Pharisees watching this moment unfold, He called their thoughts out and gave tangible proof. “Then some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.” But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Stand up and walk’? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he then said to the paralytic—“Stand up, take your bed and go to your home.” Matthew 9:3-6
Who can forgive sins? None but God Himself. And for those watching that they may believe, Jesus sent the paralytic man on his way, on his own two legs.
Jesus has given proof time and again yo His Divine Nature. God, the Father, called it out twice, at the baptism and Transfiguration. God does miracles even today to show evidence to us of His presence. Read my book, “I Knew His Voice”, to see how God proved to me that He is God.
Christ proves again from the tomb. And, His disciples prove that proof by taking their conviction of His Divinity to their own passions and deaths. Not a single one recanted or called to doubt what they saw and knew. Even, Judas realized.
C.S. Lewis also said, “Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.” If Jesus was a liar or lunatic, Christianity is of no significance, it is false. But, if Jesus is Who He says He is, Christianity is the most critical of things to all lives.
There is no in between, no luke warm. Either you are all out, believing Jesus is nothing of what He claimed. Or, you must be all in, if Jesus is truly God as He says, this is the only rational response. Go all in.
As for me…I am committed, I am 1,000% all in. Are you?
“When the crowds saw it, they were filled with awe, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to human beings.” Matthew 9:8
