Bible On the Road

Spread the love

“All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

The Bible is a special friend and companion at this point on my Road of Faith.

Once upon a time, Holy Scripture were just words read by the priest during Mass. When I was a teen, I didn’t listen at all. Then, I met my angel and she brought me to Mass. Not because I was inspired but because she was there and I wanted to be where she was. Even then when the holy words were read, I barely listened, I wasn’t there to hear God but to be seen by this beautiful woman. But, slowly, the words started to sneak into my ears and deep into my heart. Then, to be a “good Christian”, I read the Bible cover to cover. That experience was cool in that so many of the ‘old’ stories came to memory. As I read from Genesis’ garden to Moses’ plagues and David slaying Goliath, I knew these stories. But, at that point, they were still just stories.

Then, something changed within me. The Bible is not just stories I read anymore.

The words in red stand out as spoken directly across the ages from Jesus. The parables He spoke ring truth and sometimes pain into my heart. The ‘stories’ of both the Old and New Testaments are as if they are remembered specifically for me. Everything changed. Paul’s letters and those of John and Peter give clarity to my soul like a prism glass reflecting upon a wall, the colors radiate in full spectrum. Some of Jesus’s words sting as if condemnation of my life directly from my Lord. But, these words resonate within not because of the guilt they bring to the surface but because of the hope Jesus speaks even to me. Some of Jesus’ words inspire my soul to reach, no, to fly higher. Some of those red words speak salvation and saving grace into my hardest moments.

What does the Bible mean to you? What words or stories inspire you and give your soul wings?
