‘Faith is to believe what you do not see: the reward of faith is to see what you believe’ St. Augustine
“For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don’t believe, no proof is possible.”
“Now faith is the assurance that what we hope for will come about and the certainty that what we cannot see exists.” Hebrews 11:1
What does the Bible teach us about having faith? Faith is defined as a complete trust or confidence in someone or something. Having faith in the love and sovereignty of God is arguably the most prevalent idea of the Bible. Scripture compels us to have faith in God and the commandments of his Word, following the teachings of the Old and New Testaments.
All through St. Faustina’s writings and the diary of her spiritual director Blessed Father Sopocko Jesus shares His hope that we would simply have faith in Him. That’s why the Lord had St. Faustina ‘sign’ the painting with the words “Jesus, I trust in You.”
Whenever you feel your faith waning and you start to struggle, stand in front of the image of Divine Mercy repeating Jesus’ words at the bottom. Seek out scripture verses to bolster your faith, flag and highlight them now in preparation for the day they are needed. Journal your moments of struggle and faith that you may read your own words when your faith falters.
Don’t be hard on yourself either. Jesus doesn’t expect us to live a life without doubts and worries. Look at the disciples and especially Peter and Thomas. Jesus only wants that when your struggles come that you turn to Him and learn how to grow your faith and trust. This is how you will get to perfect surrender.
Luke 1:37 – For nothing will be impossible with God.
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
2 Corinthians 5:7 – For we walk by faith, not by sight.
