Be a Saint

Spread the love

“There is only one tragedy in the end: Not to have been a saint.” – Charles Péguy

When it comes down to brass tacks, the only hope we have, our singular goal in this life is to become a saint. Be presumptuous – be a saint and live knowing you will be a great saint.

I ask God to make me a great saint, to make me the man He dreamt of when He first thought of make Ed.

I love this text from the old Baltimore Catechism which asks this question: “Why did God make you?” The correct answer is: “God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in the next.”

This is summed up simply – God creates each souls with one purpose only – to be a saint.

Will you regret on the last day or will you be a saint? Do you have the gumption to ask God to make you a great saint?

Listen to the saints who have led the way for us.

“Do you know that: —Everyone can become a saint, and a great saint, with the help of the Immaculata, as long as he wants to?” – St. Maximillian Kolbe

“There is no saint without a past, and no sinner without a future.” – Saint Augustine

“Where most men work for degrees after their names, we work for one before our names: Saint.” – Mother Angelica

“He does not call those who are worthy, but those whom He wills.” – St. Therese of Lisieux

“..my glory would lie in becoming a Saint… This aspiration may seem presumptuous,..I hope in Him who is Virtue and Sanctity itself; He alone, content with my frail efforts, will lift me up to Himself, clothe me with His own merits and make me a Saint.” – St. Therese of Lisieux

“God would never inspire me with desires which cannot be realized; so in spite of my littleness, I can hope to be a saint.” – St. Therese of Lisieux

“God of great mercy, who deigned to send us Your only begotten Son as the greatest proof of Your fathomless love and mercy, You do not reject sinners; but in Your boundless mercy You have opened for them also Your treasures, treasures from which they can draw abundantly, not only justification, but also all the sanctity that a soul can attain. Father of great mercy, I desire that all hearts turn with confidence to Your infinite mercy. No one will be justified before You if he is not accompanied by Your unfathomable mercy. When You reveal the mystery of Your mercy to us, there will not be enough of eternity to properly thank You for it.” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 1122
