“Who is the Master of this beauty that lays before me Who is the Master of this beauty that lays before me Who is the Master of this beauty that lays before me Who is the Master of this beauty that lays before me.
I want to know Him, see Him, and worship Him I want to know Him, see Him, and worship Him I want to know Him, see Him, and worship Him I want to know Him, see Him, and worship Him.
Christ our King, the Son of God, who reigns over all, who reigns over all Christ our King, the Son of God, who reigns over all, who reigns over all”
Lyrics to “The Master” by Joe Jacobs and Pgh Praise Nation Band
The cartoon character Ziggy once exclaimed while viewing a particularly beautiful sunset, “Author, Author”.
Who is the Master of this beauty I see around me? I want to know Him.
God has done so many things in my life that have painted a pretty image so far. No doubt the final plan He has in mind is a true masterpiece. The key to God’s master art is to let Him have the paint and brush.
So many times I know my tendency is to grab the brush thinking I can do this or to try to define the colors of the paint.
Trying to take control of the “color of the paint” means that we are telling God that suffering isn’t the “color” we want on our tapestry, that His Will is not the “hue” we want on our image. Do we have that right? Well, God says yes – He gave us free will to define our own lives. In our Men’s Emmaus, we have one part that says “the only power we have over God is our “no””. He won’t take away our choice to do what we want.
But, I look at my life and understand that even in those large portions of my life that I had both brush and paint in hand, The Artist’s hand still brought together all in beauty. God was even able to fit my screwups into His beautiful masterpiece. I may have made it look more like a modern Picasso than a fine museum piece but He still makes it beautiful.
Let God be the Artist. Give Him the canvas, brush and paint. Trust that no matter the colors (suffering, situations and attacks), He understands the full painting that is being completed. Let the Divine Artist make your life the masterpiece He sees. Do this and someday your life, you, will be a ‘museum piece’ as a saint in Heaven.
