Attitude of Gratitude

Spread the love

“For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth….My praise is continually of you.” Psalm 71:5, 17.

An attitude of gratitude is key to a life of gratitude focused on what blessings and graces we have. An attitude of gratitude breeds a praising and thankful soul and life.

Our feelings are closely linked to our thoughts. King David said to God: “I meditate on all your activity; I eagerly ponder over the work of your hands.” (Psalm 143:5) Yes, David was not a distracted, superficial person. His thankful spirit stemmed from his regular contemplation of God’s ways, a practice he cultivated all his life.

The Bible gives us this excellent advice: ‘Whatever things are true, lovable, well-spoken-of, virtuous, and praiseworthy—continue thinking about these things.’ (Philippians 4:8) The words “continue thinking about” point yet again to our need to have a thoughtful disposition, which is a prerequisite for a grateful spirit.

My dear friend and his wife focus on gratitude through a ‘Gratitude Journal.” Whether you write down or speak out your reasons for praise and thanks to God. You must speak out the thanks. Make it visible and audible. Make it real and primary in all you think and do.

I focus on my blessings even in the storm or when the music isnt playing.
All my prayers are out of a grateful heart and spirit before I ever mention any need. Gratitude covers need with joy.

When the sun is shining or the rain falling, I lift my eyes to God in praise.

Attitude is contagious. Attitude spreads faster than any virus. Any attitude of gratitude toward God can and will change lives by your impacting spirit.

Do you have an attitude of gratitude toward God? Do you take time each day to give thanks and praise to God for the things He is doing and has done in your life? Count your blessings and thank God for each one – small and big.

On this All Saints Day, join your calls of thanks with all the saints in praise of God’s great glory.

“Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises.” James 5:13-15
