An Irish Blessing

Spread the love

Being St. Patrick’s Day, and being Irish, I wanted a moment on the Road of Faith to honor this great evangelist Saint. He is much more than a reason to drink and dress in green.

So, today, skip the whiskey and bend your knee to God.

The Irish Blessing in Gaelic or Irish is as follows:

Go n-éirí an bóthar leat
Go raibh an ghaoth go brách ag do chúl
Go lonraí an ghrian go te ar d’aghaidh
Go dtite an bháisteach go mín ar do pháirceanna
Agus go mbuailimid le chéile arís,
Go gcoinní Dia i mbos A láimhe thú.

And, finally, guided by St. Patrick, let us pray together –

Christ with me,
Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me,
Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right,
Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down,
Christ when I sit down,
Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

As we walk the Road of Faith through our lives, let these words be from our soul – “Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.”

And, as you go forth on The Road,

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
