Amen (All In)

Spread the love

Amen – uttered at the end of a prayer or hymn, meaning ‘so be it.’ From Hebrew ‘āmēn ‘truth, certainty.’

Jesus often made statements saying, “Amen, Amen” to press home or emphasize a point He was making. In essence, He is saying this is so true that you better take note.

Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life. Amen, amen, I say to you, the hour is coming and is now here when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.” John 5

Amen – I believe. Our ‘amen’ of faith needs to mean more than yes. Our ‘amen’ needs to be more than just “I believe.” When it comes to our faith in Jesus and our trust in His Divine Mercy and belief in the truth found in the Eucharist, our ‘AMEN’ needs to mean “I stake my life on this.“

For in the end, in our last breath, we will have nothing ahead to look towards but fear if this isn’t true of us.

We can’t just nonchalantly or flippantly say ‘amen’ as a final word of prayer. When the priest raises Jesus in the Eucharist before us, saying “The Body of Christ”, we can’t give a quick amen as we look for the exit. When the priest gives absolution in the Sacrament of Mercy, amen can’t just be like ‘see you later.’

In all these instances, ‘amen’ is a staking of eternity upon the truth of Jesus Christ and God the Father.

When our amen becomes so solid within our soul, heart and mind that everything we are rides on the faith affirmed, eternity can come alive though us. Trust becomes who we are not something we do.

Let our ‘AMEN’ today and for all eternity be our total ‘all in’ to Jesus.
