“And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel.’”” Matthew 2:6
We know the story of how the innkeeper didn’t have room to allow Joseph a place for Mary to deliver her baby. We look around that night at a city who’s rooms were too full to allow a couple in distress a tiny corner. Yet, as the Savior, God come as a baby was born without fanfare or notice. The only ones who came to that manger came from afar – the magi from Persia and lowliest shepherds from the field.
We enter into a season of preparation. Advent is the time to make your kingdom ready for the arrival of the King. It is time to make your soul ready. This is a time to wake up.
A star shine bright and angels sang that night…Bethlehem slept. We redefine God’s gendering, spend millions to save trees, frogs, dogs and tigers then murder our babies in the womb…America slept. Jesus born in the manger, Jesus died on the cross, Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to Heaven…the Church sleeps.
We roll our eyes and just accept the words of leaders who say murder of the unborn is healthcare. We exalt those in sports and movie who live lives of violence and debauchery. Then, muffle the righteous voices of those standing to proclaim the Kingdom at hand. And, the Church sleeps in its silence this night.
Time is short before the King returns in a flash of glory. Take this as a warning…wake now before it’s too late. Make room in your heart.
Don’t find yourself sleeping or lax. The King! The King! The Master returns! let Him find you standing alert, with brightly lit lantern, rejoicing.
