“I am saying this that you may constantly unite yourself with Me through love, for this is the goal of the life of your soul. This act is an act of the will. Know that a pure soul is humble. When you lower and empty yourself before My majesty, I then pursue you with My graces and make use of My omnipotence to exalt you” Divine Mercy in My Soul # 576
Definition of humility: freedom from pride or arrogance : the quality or state of being humble.
What is it to live in a state of humility?
We should all desire to live in humility especially before God but also with our fellow man.
When we truly see God as God, and ourselves as nothing in comparison to this God, and when in this realization we see how important we are to God, we see the value God places upon our service and we serve in humility. We stop looking for the playback on the billboard and stop pointing to Heaven with one finger while the other hand pats ourself on the back.
Humility itself is an act of the will. Trust me, this is coming from a man full of pride and vainglory. It is so easy for me to start a task for the glory of God and somewhere along the line let it become about me. We must learn and fight our own will that we always do everything for and through God.
God will always work in our lives, through His powerful graces to help us learn to share the gifts the Holy Spirit has given us. These gifts are given not for applause of self but to make the Kingdom of God greater and more visible by our fellow man on earth.
God does understand how our minds and hearts work, He made every synapse and cell after all. Give God your actions step by step and allow the Spirit to reach you day by day and event by event to give your service to the Father.
We’ve all had lessons in humble service. We find excitement in a pat on the back but come to realize there is true lasting joy in humble and often invisible service.
“Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven. “So whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:1-4
